Job summary

The University of Melbourne invites applications for a strategic leadership role within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. You will translate strategy into coordinated projects, managing partnerships across Schools and external partners to deliver health and education outcomes.

Leading priority initiatives and developing clear briefs, you will engage senior leaders and shape the future direction of the faculty, contributing to Advancing Melbourne’s mission.

Qualifications

  • Holds a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in complex organisations.
  • Experience in strategy development and delivering projects in large or matrixed environments.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills to manage multiple initiatives and deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication for briefing papers, reports and presentations.
  • Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders and influence across boundaries.
  • Demonstrates good judgement, initiative, problem solving and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Lead priority strategic initiatives, including planning, coordination and execution under the guidance of the Director of Strategy and External Relations.
  • Develop and articulate faculty strategic priorities with briefs, plans and supporting documentation.
  • Provide project and coordination support for executive priorities, governance forums and leadership decisions.
  • Coordinate stakeholders across Schools, disciplines and functions to align activities and reduce duplication.
  • Design and embed tools and processes that improve visibility, accountability and delivery of strategic work.

Role Expectations

You will lead the delivery of strategy and a range of initiatives that will shape the future direction of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. You will translate high-level strategy into coordinated projects and partnerships that support impactful health, research and education outcomes. You will gain broad exposure to senior leaders, complex stakeholders and external partners across the University and health sector.

What you will deliver:
  • Lead priority strategic initiatives, including planning, coordination and execution under the guidance of the Director of Strategy and External Relations
  • Develop and articulate faculty strategic priorities, producing clear briefings, plans, presentations and supporting documentation
  • Provide project and coordination support for executive priorities, governance forums and leadership decision-making
  • Coordinate stakeholders across Schools, disciplines and functions to align activities and minimise duplication
  • Design and embed simple tools and processes that improve visibility, accountability and delivery of strategic work

  • Hold a relevant tertiary qualification, or bring equivalent education and experience in complex organisations
  • Demonstrate experience in strategy development and project execution within large or matrixed environments
  • Apply strong organisational and project management skills to manage multiple initiatives and deadlines
  • Communicate clearly in writing and verbally, preparing high-quality briefings, reports and presentations
  • Build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, negotiating priorities and influencing across boundaries
  • Bring sound judgement, initiative, problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail to strategic work

You will join the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, Australia’s leading clinical, pre-clinical and health sciences faculty. Working within the Strategy and External Relations portfolio, you will collaborate with colleagues across six Schools, 41 departments and a rich network of hospital and research partners. You will contribute to a coordinated strategy function that supports Advancing Melbourne and delivers tangible benefits for communities’ health and wellbeing.
