Job summary

The University of Western Australia is seeking a Manager, National Security Due Diligence to lead the university's national security due diligence screening program and analytical capability.

  • Lead the University's national security due diligence and research security intelligence capability.
  • Influence strategic decisions on international partnerships, research collaborations, funding, appointments and gifts.
  • Full-time (1.0 FTE) appointment on an ongoing basis.
  • UWA will consider applicants located across Australia.
  • Base salary range: $120,912 – $132,161 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.
About the area

The position sits within the Counter Foreign Interference and Security function of the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) (ODVCR), under the Associate Director, Counter Foreign Interference and Security. The function is the University's authority on national security.

About the opportunity
  • Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of UWA's national security due diligence screening program and analytical methodology.
  • Deliver evidence-based, decision-ready intelligence and risk assessments relating to research collaborations, funding, personnel disclosures, partnerships, donations and other strategic engagements.
  • Provide expert advice to senior stakeholders, strengthen organisational capability through education and policy development, and support the University's Defence Industry Security Program obligations.
About you
  • Extensive experience in due diligence, intelligence analysis, investigations, research security or risk advisory within government, higher education, the national security community or professional services.
  • Demonstrated expertise in open-source intelligence, analytical methodologies, complex research and developing defensible assessments under uncertainty.
  • Strong understanding of geopolitical, security and technology risk environments, including critical and emerging technologies and their strategic implications.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality risk assessments and provide advice to senior stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement, maintain confidentiality and work effectively both independently and within a high-trust team.
  • An AGSVA Security clearance at Negative Vetting 1 or above.
