Job summary

Mader Group is seeking an experienced Shutdown Supervisor to lead major shutdown activities, coordinating trades and resources for safe, on-schedule delivery across Bowen Basin mine sites. Strong background with large hydraulic excavators and mobile plant is essential.

Based in Mackay, this role focuses on planning, coordination and execution of shutdowns, requiring leadership of trades and project teams to meet high safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in Diesel Fitting or Mobile Plant
• Experience in Queensland coal mining, Bowen Basin
• Strong hands-on experience with large hydraulic excavators/diggers
• Proven experience supervising and coordinating major mining shutdowns

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee major shutdown activities across Bowen Basin mine sites
• Coordinate shutdown crews, supervisors, tradespeople, contractors and support personnel
• Develop and manage shutdown plans, schedules, resource requirements and execution strategies
• Oversee maintenance and component change-out activities on large hydraulic excavators
• Provide strong technical and operational leadership throughout shutdowns
• Monitor shutdown progress and proactively address issues that may impact safety, quality or schedule
• Coordinate labour, equipment, tooling and materials to support successful project delivery
• Work closely with clients and site management to ensure shutdown requirements are understood and achieved
• Identify project risks and implement appropriate controls and corrective actions
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with Mader, client and site safety requirements
• Drive a strong safety culture and maintain high standards across the shutdown team
• Contribute to continuous improvement across shutdown planning and execution

Mader Group is seeking an experienced Shutdown Supervisor with a strong background in hydraulic excavators and mobile plant to join our Shutdown Division.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced mining professional who can confidently lead major shutdown activities, coordinate trades and resources, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Working across major Bowen Basin mine sites, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of shutdown and maintenance projects on large hydraulic excavators.

About the Role

As a Shutdown Supervisor, you will be responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of major shutdown activities, working closely with site management, supervisors, tradespeople, clients and project teams.

Your strong technical background with large hydraulic excavators will be highly valued, with the role requiring someone who understands the equipment, shutdown environment and challenges associated with major component and maintenance projects.

You will be responsible for ensuring shutdown activities are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

What You'll Bring

• Trade qualification in Diesel Fitting / Mobile Plant or a related discipline

• Extensive experience within Queensland coal mining, particularly the Bowen Basin

• Strong hands‑on experience with large hydraulic excavators / diggers

• Proven experience supervising and coordinating major mining shutdowns

• Demonstrated leadership experience managing tradespeople, supervisors, contractors and project teams

• Strong understanding of shutdown planning, scheduling, labour coordination and project delivery

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

• Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills

• Current S123 and G2 competencies

• Current Standard 11 and Coal Board Medical

• Current Australian Driver's Licence

• Ability to pass pre‑employment medical assessments and ongoing drug and alcohol testing
