Job summary

Collar Care is seeking an experienced Maintenance Officer in Canberra to join our aged care organisation. This hands-on role focuses on reactive and preventative maintenance, ensuring buildings and equipment are safe and well-maintained for residents, staff and visitors.

You will perform general handyman tasks, coordinate contractors, maintain records, and support WHS compliance. A 3–5 year background in maintenance and a valid driver’s licence are essential; this full-time opportunity offers

Qualifications

• 3–5 years’ experience in handyman or building maintenance.
• Building trade qualifications or equivalent advanced maintenance knowledge.
• Knowledge of building codes and general maintenance practices.
• Understanding of WHS requirements.

Responsibilities

• Complete preventative and reactive maintenance.
• Undertake general handyman and building maintenance.
• Maintain property, buildings and equipment.
• Respond to maintenance requests promptly.
• Coordinate and oversee contractors when required.
• Identify and escalate maintenance risks.
• Support compliance with relevant standards and WHS requirements.
• Maintain accurate records relating to maintenance, consumables and expenses.
• Work collaboratively with staff, contractors, residents and families.

Collar Care is currently seeking an experienced Maintenance Officer to join a well-established aged care organisation in the ACT.

This is a hands-on role responsible for supporting the delivery of reactive and preventative maintenance, ensuring buildings, property and equipment are maintained to a high standard and that a safe environment is provided for residents, staff and visitors.

About the Role

You will be responsible for:

• Completing preventative and reactive maintenance
• Undertaking general handyman and building maintenance
• Maintaining property, buildings and equipment
• Responding to maintenance requests in a timely manner
• Coordinating and overseeing contractors when required
• Identifying and escalating maintenance risks
• Supporting compliance with relevant standards and WHS requirements
• Maintaining accurate records relating to maintenance, consumables and expenses
• Working collaboratively with staff, contractors, residents and families
• Responding to emergency maintenance requirements when required

The role is focused on maintaining a safe, functional and high-quality living environment for residents, staff and visitors.

About You

To be successful, you will have:

• 3–5 years’ experience in general handyman or building maintenance
• Building trade qualifications or equivalent advanced maintenance knowledge and skills
• Knowledge of building codes, standards and general maintenance practices
• Understanding of WHS requirements
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills
• The ability to work professionally with residents, families, staff and contractors
• A genuine understanding and sensitivity towards working within a residential aged care environment

Aged care, retirement living or health experience is desirable.
