Job description

Crystalbrook Flynn is the social butterfly of Cairns — bold, energetic and always at the centre of the action.

Located in the heart of the Cairns CBD and just steps from the Esplanade, Crystalbrook Flynn brings together stylish accommodation, vibrant dining and a lively sense of personality. With 311 rooms and suites, three of the city’s most exciting restaurants and bars, two glass swimming pools, conference and event spaces, Eleme Day Spa and a 24-hour fitness centre, Crystalbrook Flynn is designed for connection, celebration and memorable guest experiences.

Fresh, fun and full of energy, Crystalbrook Flynn is a hotel that never stands still - where innovation, style and tropical city living come together.

The Opportunity

A hotel with personality needs people who care about keeping it at its best. As our Maintenance Manager, you will oversee the care, presentation and performance of Crystalbrook Flynn, helping create welcoming spaces and reliable facilities that make every stay run smoothly.

Reporting to the Director, Assets & Facilities, you will lead and develop our onsite Maintenance Officers, coordinate workloads and bring a proactive approach to preventative maintenance and repairs. Working closely with hotel colleagues and the Area Technical Maintenance Team, you will organise contractors and specialist support, communicate priorities and step in with minor hands-on repairs where practical.

Alongside daily operations, you will monitor expenditure, contribute to budgets and capital works planning, and identify improvements that reduce energy use, minimise waste and extend the life of our assets. Your practical expertise and sound judgement will help balance safety, guest comfort and the needs of a busy hotel.

This permanent, full-time role offers a primarily Monday-to-Friday schedule, with flexibility to support operational needs and attend call-outs when required.

The Talent

You are a practical, approachable maintenance leader who enjoys solving problems and helping people do their best work. You plan ahead, respond calmly when priorities change and communicate clearly with everyone from contractors to hotel leaders.

You take pride in a job done properly, know when to involve specialist expertise and understand the difference a well-maintained hotel makes to guests and colleagues alike.

You will bring:

  • Proven maintenance leadership experience, supported by a strong practical background in trades or building maintenance. Hotel experience is valued, alongside experience in complex commercial buildings.
  • The ability to lead, coach and develop a maintenance team, setting clear priorities and supporting consistent standards.
  • Strong planning and problem-solving skills across preventative works, reactive repairs and competing operational demands.
  • A working understanding of building services, including HVAC, electrical, fire and building management systems, with experience coordinating specialist support.
  • Relevant WHS qualifications and sound knowledge of building compliance and safe maintenance practices.
  • Strong financial and administration skills, including monitoring expenditure, assessing quotations, maintaining accurate records and contributing to budgets and capital works planning.
  • Experience managing contractors and service agreements, with an understanding of building defects and rectification.
  • Clear communication and confidence using systems to organise maintenance activities and explain technical matters to colleagues across the hotel.
