Job summary

AWX in Toowoomba is recruiting multiple Permanent Full-Time Mechanical Fitters to join the maintenance team of a leading food manufacturer. The role offers rotating day, afternoon and night shifts, competitive pay, and regular overtime within a modern maintenance environment.

You will perform preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance, diagnose faults, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the site. Ongoing training and career development are available.

Qualifications

• Trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter with suitable certification.
• Experience in food manufacturing, FMCG, or industrial settings.
• Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, pumps and rotating equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults to minimise downtime.
• Repair, service and overhaul pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, motors, valves, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Complete scheduled maintenance per maintenance plans and site requirements.
• Assist with equipment installations, upgrades and commissioning of new machinery.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.
• Collaborate with production and engineering teams to meet targets.
• Maintain maintenance records and complete work orders in the CMMS.
• Ensure compliance with WHS and food manufacturing standards.

Job description

We are currently recruiting multiple Permanent Full-Time Mechanical Fitters to join the maintenance team of a leading food manufacturer based in Toowoomba.

This is a fantastic opportunity to secure a permanent role offering competitive pay, shift allowances, regular overtime and long-term career development.
You will work on a rotating shift roster across day, afternoon and night shifts, helping maintain plant reliability, minimise downtime and support continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

Rotating Shift Schedule

• Day Shift: 6:00am – 2:00pm
• Afternoon Shift: 2:00pm – 10:00pm
• Night Shift: 10:00pm – 6:00am

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventative, predictive and breakdown maintenance on manufacturing and processing equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults to minimise downtime and maximise production efficiency.
• Repair, service and overhaul pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, motors, valves, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Complete scheduled maintenance in line with maintenance plans and site requirements.
• Assist with equipment installations, upgrades and commissioning of new machinery.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability.
• Collaborate with production and engineering teams to achieve operational targets.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete work orders through the site's maintenance management system.
• Ensure all work complies with workplace health and safety policies and food manufacturing standards.

The Candidate

• Trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter (Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or equivalent).
• Previous experience in food manufacturing, FMCG, processing, packaging or industrial manufacturing environments.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, pumps and rotating equipment.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Willingness to work rotating day, afternoon and night shifts.
• Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
