Job summary

National Workforce is seeking a Mechanical Fitter in Thornton, NSW, to ensure reliable operation of plant and equipment. The role covers reactive maintenance, breakdown diagnosis, and timely repairs, with involvement in preventative maintenance to minimize downtime.

You will troubleshoot faults, respond promptly to breakdowns, read drawings, and work with production and maintenance teams. The role starts on day shift and will transition to afternoon shift; overtime opportunities may be available

Qualifications

• Accredited trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter or equivalent.
• Proven experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
• Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willing to commence on day shift and transition to afternoon shift.

Please note, this position will initially commence as a day‑shift role before transitioning into a regular afternoon shift.

Position Overview:

You will play a crucial role in ensuring the continuous operation and reliability of plant and equipment. Your expertise will be key in performing reactive maintenance, diagnosing breakdowns, conducting timely repairs, and contributing to preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.

Responsibilities:

• Troubleshoot, diagnose faults, and perform repairs on machinery to ensure optimal performance.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns to minimize production impact and operational downtime.
• Conduct planned preventative maintenance tasks as scheduled.
• Collaborate effectively with production staff, supervisors, and other maintenance team members for plant‑wide efficiency.
• Uphold meticulous records of maintenance work and repairs performed.
• Adhere strictly to all site safety protocols and procedures.

Requirements:

• Accredited trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter or equivalent.
• Proven experience working as a Fitter within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of complex production machinery, including hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Excellent diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
• Capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Flexibility and willingness to commence on day shift and subsequently transition to an afternoon shift schedule.
