Job summary

Rio Tinto's 7 Mile Operations is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join their team on a FIFO basis. The role reports to the Superintendent Engineering Electrical and involves providing technical support across electrical, automation and control systems, with a focus on reliability and safety.

You'll work within a safety-first culture, collaborating with maintenance, operations and external vendors to optimise plant performance at Rio Tinto's 7 Mile site.

Qualifications

• 15–20 years of experience in Electrical, Control Systems, Automation or Mechatronics Engineering in mining, heavy industry, rail, or similar environments.
• Experience troubleshooting PLCs, SCADA, HMI, instrumentation and industrial networks.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronics, Automation or related discipline.
• Strong ability to interpret electrical schematics and control documentation; experience with modifications and commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical engineering support for electrical, automation and control systems across maintenance and operations.
• Troubleshoot faults in PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, instrumentation and networks.
• Lead reliability improvements via root cause analysis and continuous improvement projects.

Through Rio Tinto's partnership with Chandler Macleod, we are seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer for Rio Tinto's 7 Mile Operations.

Offered on a FIFO basis, this opportunity offers the chance to work within a leading global organisation, contributing to key operational and business outcomes. Working a Wednesday-to-Wednesday 8:6 FIFO roster (day shift only) roster, you'll join a supportive team focused on safety, collaboration and delivering operational excellence.

Reporting to the Superintendent Engineering Electrical, you'll use your skills and experience to support business priorities, collaborate with key stakeholders and contribute to the success of the operation. In this role, you will:

• Provide technical engineering support for electrical, automation and control systems across maintenance and operational activities
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve faults involving PLCs, SCADA systems, HMIs, instrumentation, industrial networks and associated electrical equipment
• Lead reliability improvement initiatives through defect elimination, root cause investigations, performance analysis and continuous improvement projects
• Support system upgrades, software and configuration management, technical documentation updates and engineering change processes
• Collaborate with maintenance, operations, reliability teams and external vendors to deliver safe, efficient and reliable plant performance

About You

• 15-20 years of experience in Electrical, Control Systems, Automation or Mechatronics Engineering within mining, heavy industry, rail, manufacturing or similar operational environments
• Demonstrated experience supporting and troubleshooting PLCs, SCADA, HMI systems, instrumentation, industrial communications networks and electrical control systems
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronics, Automation, Control Systems Engineering or a related discipline
• Strong capability interpreting electrical schematics, control logic, network architecture and technical documentation, with experience supporting system modifications, upgrades and commissioning activities
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
