Job summary

Respect Group is recruiting for a Full-Time Maintenance Services Assistant at Chaffey House, Merbein. You’ll maintain gardens, outdoor spaces, and buildings, perform handyman tasks and preventative maintenance, and keep records and supplies well-organised in a supportive aged-care setting.

Seeking practical, dependable individuals who can work independently or with a team, hold a valid driver’s license, and meet relevant screening requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience in gardening, general handyman work, or property upkeep.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Current driver’s license.
• Experience in aged care or residential environments desirable.
• Willingness to obtain National Police Certificate and meet Aged Care Worker Screening.

Responsibilities

• Maintain gardens and outdoor areas to keep them neat, safe and welcoming.
• Carry out general handyman duties, repairs and routine maintenance.
• Keep buildings, equipment, fixtures and communal areas in good working order.
• Identify maintenance issues and report or address them promptly.
• Undertake preventative maintenance tasks and follow schedules.
• Manage maintenance and gardening supplies and ensure materials are available.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and work schedules.
• Support health and safety, fire safety and regulatory compliance.
• Liaise with external contractors and service providers as required.
• Keep site vehicles, tools and equipment clean and ready for use.
• Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
• Provide on-call support when required and agreed.
• Collaborate with the Chaffey House team to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Maintaining gardens, outdoor areas, pathways and grounds to ensure they remain neat, safe and welcoming.
• Carrying out general handyman duties, repairs and routine maintenance throughout the facility.
• Helping keep buildings, equipment, fixtures and communal areas in good working order.
• Identifying maintenance issues and reporting or addressing them promptly to prevent minor problems from becoming major repairs.
• Undertaking preventative maintenance tasks and following established maintenance schedules.
• Managing maintenance and gardening supplies, ensuring equipment and materials are organised and available when required.
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records, work schedules and relevant documentation.
• Supporting essential workplace health and safety, fire safety and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Liaising and coordinating with external contractors and service providers as required.
• Keeping site vehicles, tools and equipment clean, safe and ready for use.
• Responding to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
• Providing on‑call support when required and agreed as part of the role.
• Working collaboratively with the Chaffey House team to maintain a safe, comfortable and well‑presented residential environment.

What We’re Looking For

Most importantly, you’re practical, dependable and take pride in your work. You enjoy being hands‑on, can manage your workload effectively and understand the importance of maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for older people.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Demonstrated experience in gardening, general handyman work, building maintenance or property upkeep.
• A practical, can‑do attitude and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise maintenance tasks effectively.
• Good attention to detail and a commitment to keeping facilities clean, safe and well presented.
• A current driver’s license.
• Experience in maintenance, facilities management, groundskeeping or a similar role.
• A relevant trade qualification or maintenance‑related certification, which will be highly regarded.
• Experience working in aged care, health care or a similar residential environment, which is desirable.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work respectfully with residents, colleagues, contractors and visitors.
• A current National Police Certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
• A willingness to meet applicable Aged Care Worker Screening requirements.
