Job summary

Respect at Chaffey House in Merbein, Victoria, Australia, is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Services Assistant on a full-time basis to care for gardens, outdoor spaces and general facilities. You will perform repairs, preventive maintenance and coordinate with contractors to keep the home safe and welcoming for residents.

Qualifications

• Experience in gardening, general handyman work, building maintenance or property upkeep.
• Practical, can-do attitude; able to work independently or in a team.
• Strong organisational skills to prioritise maintenance tasks.
• Attention to detail; keep facilities clean, safe and well presented.
• Current driver's licence.
• Experience in maintenance, facilities management, groundskeeping or similar.
• Relevant trade qualification or maintenance-related certification.
• Experience in aged care or healthcare environment desirable.
• Good communication; work respectfully with residents, colleagues and contractors.
• Current National Police Certificate or willingness to obtain.
• Willingness to meet Aged Care Worker Screening requirements.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining gardens, outdoor areas, pathways and grounds; keep neat and welcoming.
• Carrying out general handyman duties, repairs and routine maintenance.
• Keeping buildings, equipment, fixtures and communal areas in good order.
• Identifying maintenance issues and reporting or addressing promptly.
• Undertaking preventative maintenance tasks and schedules.
• Managing maintenance and gardening supplies; ensuring availability.
• Maintaining maintenance records and documentation.
• Supporting workplace health and safety and regulatory compliance.
• Coordinating with external contractors and service providers.
• Keeping site vehicles, tools and equipment clean and ready.
• Responding to maintenance requests in a timely, professional manner.
• Providing on-call support as required and agreed.
• Working with the team to maintain a safe, comfortable residential environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Maintaining gardens, outdoor areas, pathways and grounds to ensure they remain neat, safe and welcoming.
• Carrying out general handyman duties, repairs and routine maintenance throughout the facility.
• Helping keep buildings, equipment, fixtures and communal areas in good working order.
• Identifying maintenance issues and reporting or addressing them promptly to prevent minor problems from becoming major repairs.
• Undertaking preventative maintenance tasks and following established maintenance schedules.
• Managing maintenance and gardening supplies, ensuring equipment and materials are organised and available when required.
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records, work schedules and relevant documentation.
• Supporting essential workplace health and safety, fire safety and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Liaising and coordinating with external contractors and service providers as required.
• Keeping site vehicles, tools and equipment clean, safe and ready for use.
• Responding to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
• Providing on-call support when required and agreed as part of the role.
• Working collaboratively with the Chaffey House team to maintain a safe, comfortable and well-presented residential environment.

What We’re Looking For

Most importantly, you're practical, dependable and take pride in your work. You enjoy being hands-on, can manage your workload effectively and understand the importance of maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for older people.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Demonstrated experience in gardening, general handyman work, building maintenance or property upkeep.
• A practical, can-do attitude and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise maintenance tasks effectively.
• Good attention to detail and a commitment to keeping facilities clean, safe and well presented.
• A current driver's licence.
• Experience in maintenance, facilities management, groundskeeping or a similar role.
• A relevant trade qualification or maintenance-related certification, which will be highly regarded.
• Experience working in aged care, health care or a similar residential environment, which is desirable.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work respectfully with residents, colleagues, contractors and visitors.
• A current National Police Certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
• A willingness to meet applicable Aged Care Worker Screening requirements.
