Job summary

Respect is seeking a full-time Maintenance Services Assistant at Chaffey House, Merbein, to maintain gardens, outdoor spaces, and buildings in a welcoming residential setting for our residents. You will perform hands-on maintenance, garden care, and proactive repairs, contributing to a safe and comfortable living environment.

The role emphasizes practical skills, reliability, and the ability to work independently or with a team, including adherence to health, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in gardening, handyman work, or property upkeep.
• Can-do attitude with ability to work independently or in a team.
• Strong organisational skills for prioritising tasks.
• Attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
• Current driver’s licence.
• Experience in aged care or similar residential environment is desirable.
• National Police Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
• Willing to meet Aged Care Worker Screening requirements.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining gardens, outdoor areas, pathways and grounds to ensure they remain neat, safe and welcoming.
• Carrying out general handyman duties, repairs and routine maintenance throughout the facility.
• Helping keep buildings, equipment, fixtures and communal areas in good working order.
• Identifying maintenance issues and reporting or addressing them promptly to prevent minor problems from becoming major repairs.
• Undertaking preventative maintenance tasks and following established maintenance schedules.
• Managing maintenance and gardening supplies, ensuring equipment and materials are organised and available when required.
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records, work schedules and relevant documentation.
• Supporting essential workplace health and safety, fire safety and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Liaising and coordinating with external contractors and service providers as required.
• Keeping site vehicles, tools and equipment clean, safe and ready for use.
• Responding to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
• Providing on-call support when required and agreed as part of the role.
• Working collaboratively with the Chaffey House team to maintain a safe, comfortable and well-presented residential environment.

You’ll Ideally Bring

• Demonstrated experience in gardening, general handyman work, building maintenance or property upkeep.
• A practical, can-do attitude and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise maintenance tasks effectively.
• Good attention to detail and a commitment to keeping facilities clean, safe and well presented.
• A current driver’s licence.
• Experience in maintenance, facilities management, groundskeeping or a similar role.
• A relevant trade qualification or maintenance-related certification, which will be highly regarded.
• Experience working in aged care, health care or a similar residential environment, which is desirable.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work respectfully with residents, colleagues, contractors and visitors.
• A current National Police Certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
• A willingness to meet applicable Aged Care Worker Screening requirements.
