Job summary

Profectus is seeking an IBM Mainframe Developer to support a core government system in Canberra. You will deliver mainframe code changes, resolve issues and help keep the production system stable and secure in a highly governed environment.

This associate level role requires solid COBOL and mainframe fundamentals, with the chance to build experience across the full software lifecycle within a government context. You must be an Australian citizen with NV1 clearance and onsite work.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated mainframe development using COBOL or a relevant degree with practical experience.
• Working knowledge of CICS, JCL, VSAM and DB2 on z/OS.
• Able to debug, monitor and troubleshoot mainframe applications.
• Strong communication and documentation skills for cross‑functional teams.
• Australian citizenship with an active NV1 security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Write clear, testable mainframe code to milestones.
• Cover full SDLC in line with the methodology.
• Produce technical specs and assess feasibility of changes.
• Integrate components and maintain supporting documentation.
• Perform unit and integration testing and support UAT.
• Prepare time and effort estimates for development work.
• Take ownership of issues and follow through to resolution.
• Support code deployment and change controls per cyber security standards.
• Provide debugging and remediation of production issues.
• Share knowledge and provide guidance to team members.
• Participate in a shared after hours on-call roster.
