Job summary

Profectus is seeking an IBM Mainframe Developer to support the ongoing development and sustainment of a core government system. You will deliver mainframe code changes, resolve technical issues and help keep production systems stable and secure in a highly governed government environment.

This associate role suits a COBOL-focused developer looking to build experience with CICS, JCL, VSAM, DB2 and z/OS while collaborating with business analysts and project staff.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in mainframe application development using COBOL or relevant tertiary qualification with practical development experience
• Knowledge of CICS, JCL, VSAM and DB2
• Understanding of z/OS and mainframe operating systems
• Experience with debugging, telemetry and monitoring tools in a mainframe setting
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills with a methodical approach to fault finding
• Clear written and verbal communication including converting business requirements to technical docs
• Ability to collaborate with developers, analysts, project managers and business users
• Exposure to IBM MQ Series and Rocket Data z/Services
• Previous experience supporting Australian Government systems

Responsibilities

• Write clear, testable mainframe code to meet timelines and milestones
• Work across the full software development lifecycle
• Produce technical specifications and assess feasibility of changes
• Integrate components into working systems and maintain documentation
• Perform unit and component testing and support functional/non-functional tests
• Prepare time and effort estimates for development work
• Take ownership of issues and drive to resolution
• Support code deployment and change control in line with security standards
• Provide technical support and troubleshoot production issues
• Contribute to forward planning to meet demand
• Liaise with third party suppliers and service providers
• Share knowledge and mentor team members
• Suggest improvements to development processes and tooling
• Participate in shared after-hours on-call roster
