Job summary

Jumbo, a local southeast Queensland waste management and recycling group, seeks a Machine Operator for its Narangba yard. You will operate the front-line recovery machine on the tip floor, break down loads, and separate materials into clean streams while keeping stockpiles tidy.

The role is casual with 30–40 hours weekly, with potential move to full-time for the right candidate, and offers a pathway to gain additional tickets within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in waste sorting or primary picking, or comparable excavator work in resource recovery, quarry, civil or demolition.
• Confident, precise machine control - you can pick clean without contaminating streams or damaging plant.
• A good eye for material identification and product quality.
• A safety-first attitude and willingness to follow procedures and SWMS.
• A strong work ethic and reliability - you turn up on time, every day.
• Ability to perform the inherent physical requirements of the role.
• Current driver's licence and own reliable transport.

Responsibilities

• Operating an excavator with grab and sorting attachments on the tip floor.
• Breaking down incoming loads and primary picking of recovered materials.
• Separating material into clean streams - concrete, metal, fines and residual.
• Feeding the plant and maintaining stockpiles.
• Operating loader, skid steer and forklift as required.
• Daily pre-start checks, greasing and basic operator maintenance.

• Working safely at all times, wearing PPE, reporting hazards and near misses.
• Supporting the Yard Supervisor, plant operators, drivers and maintenance crew as needed.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Machine Operator to join our recycling yard at Narangba, reporting to the Yard Supervisor.

This is the machine at the front of our recovery process. You'll be working the tip floor — breaking down incoming construction and demolition loads, primary picking and separating recovered materials into clean product streams, and keeping the floor clear and stockpiles tidy.

We want someone who understands that recovery rate is the whole game. A good operator on this machine is the difference between clean, saleable product and material that goes to landfill.

This is a casual role with good hours - averaging 40 to 50 hours per week, Monday to Friday with the occasional Saturday. Option to move to fulltime basis for the right person in time.

What You'll Be Doing

What We're Looking For

• Ability to perform the inherent physical requirements of the role, including climbing in and out of machinery, manual handling, and prolonged sitting and standing in an outdoor industrial environment

• Current driver's licence and own reliable transport

Highly Regarded (Not Essential)

• Excavator and front-end loader tickets

• Forklift (LF) licence

• White Card

• Truck licence

• Experience working to recovery rate or product quality targets

• $38 to $47 per hour depending on experience, plus overtime

Working Conditions
