Job summary

Zoom Recruitment in Canberra is seeking an experienced Machine Operator to operate automated steel fabrication equipment, including CNC and robotic welding systems, to produce steel reinforcement cages for construction foundations.

You will set up machines, read production drawings, adjust parameters, monitor welding processes, and ensure quality and safety while meeting production targets in a team environment.

Machine Operator | Automated Steel Manufacturing

Experienced with automated machinery, CNC equipment or steel processing? Bring your technical skills and mechanical aptitude to a role producing steel reinforcement cages for construction foundations.

We are seeking an experienced Machine Operator to operate a GAM 1500 HS Hybrid automated robotic welding machine. This hands‑on role will suit someone who enjoys setting up machinery, solving production issues and delivering consistent, high-quality results.

About the role

You will oversee the production process from machine setup through to finished product checks. Your responsibilities will include:

• Setting up and operating automated machinery to meet production specifications.
• Adjusting machine settings for different cage sizes and production requirements.
• Monitoring the automated welding process to maintain consistent output.
• Checking finished cages for accurate dimensions, spacing and weld quality.
• Identifying machine faults and assisting with basic troubleshooting.
• Meeting production targets while maintaining quality and safety standards.

About you

You bring practical machine operating experience, a strong mechanical mindset and pride in the quality of your work.

We are looking for:

• Previous experience operating automated industrial, CNC or steel processing machinery.
• Confidence setting up equipment and adjusting operating parameters.
• Mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting skills.
• The ability to read and interpret production drawings or specifications.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality control.
• A reliable approach, strong safety awareness and the ability to work effectively within a production team.

Experience with the GAM 1500 HS Hybrid is not essential. Relevant experience with other automated machinery will be considered.
