Job summary

UGL Transport is seeking Mechanical Service Technicians to join the Hunter Valley Maintenance Centre in Newcastle. These permanent, full-time positions operate on a 9-day fortnight, with day/afternoon shifts and potential night shifts or 12-hour rosters to support our 24/7 operation.

Qualified mechanical tradespeople will service and maintain locomotives, work with lathe equipment, and ensure safe, high-quality outcomes for customers.

Qualifications

• Qualified mechanical tradesperson with a recognised trade certificate.
• Proven hands-on maintenance experience; rail/locomotive experience preferred.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on locomotives.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults.
• Repair and maintain locomotive components and equipment.
• Operate workshop equipment including lathes and tools.
• Complete maintenance documentation accurately.
• Maintain safe work practices and contribute to a positive team environment.
• Deliver reliable, quality outcomes for customers.
