Job summary

Maxima’s client, a local Council, seeks an experienced Local Laws Officer in Tewantin to enforce local laws with emphasis on information, education and self-regulation. The role involves rostered shifts across 5 of 7 days, including weekends and out-of-hours, at a casual hourly rate of $53.47 plus super.

You will investigate complaints, educate the public, enforce impound procedures, maintain records and act as a Council ambassador while gathering evidence for prosecutions as required.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to undertake complex investigations within a regulatory framework.
• Sound knowledge of local laws, policies and state legislation relevant to the role.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for community liaison.
• Excellent time management and organisational skills with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve complaints, including serving notices to seek compliance with Local Laws, State Acts and Regulations.
• Deliver education programs to the community on regulatory matters, focusing on safety and responsible pet ownership.
• Understand and enforce Council impound procedures in relation to Local Laws and Regulations.
• Maintain and update records to ensure information is current and accurate.
• Act as an ambassador for Council, providing timely information and advice on local law matters.
• Make timely enquiries and gather evidence for prosecutions of offences and issue infringement notices.
• Undertake patrols of beaches, parks, reserves, roads and other Council land for breaches and take corrective action.

Maxima’s client, a well-known local Council are seeking an experienced Local Laws Officer for an assignment based out of Tewantin. You will be a part of a rostered work pattern across any 5 out of 7 days which may include regular weekend and out-of-hours work with a casual hourly pay of $53.47 + super.
This role with see you provide customer focused enforcement of Council’s Local Laws and policies and relevant State legislation with an emphasis on information, education and self-regulation.
Key Responsibilities:

• Investigate and resolve complaints, including the serving of notices to seek compliance with Council’s
  Local Laws, State Acts and Regulations and other legislation relevant to the position


• Deliver education programs to the community relative to a regulatory environment, focusing on
  community safety, awareness and responsible pet ownership


• Understand and enforce according to Council’s impound procedures in relation to Local Laws, State
  Acts and Regulations and other legislative requirements


• Maintain and update records relevant to the position to ensure information and knowledge is current
  and accurate


• Act as an ambassador for Council during interactions with the community and provide accurate and
  timely information and advice regarding relevant local law matters


• Make timely enquiries and gather evidence for the prosecution of offences against Council’s Local
  Laws, State Acts and Regulations and other legislation relevant to the position, issue and serve
  infringement notices and appear for Council as a witness in court


• Undertake patrols of beaches, parks, reserves, roads and other Council controlled land for breaches
  of local laws and take action to resolve those breaches in accordance with Council policy

Skills, knowledge and experienced required:

• Demonstrated knowledge required to undertake complex investigations, relevant to a regulatory environment


• Sound knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of Councils local laws, policies and procedures and other relevant State legislation


• The physical ability to undertake local laws duties


• Proven ability to work as an effective, positive team member in a high performing customer focused regulatory environment


• Proven ability to deliver accurate and timely customer service, exercising sound judgment, decision
  making and initiative


• Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively liaise with members of the public, community groups and businesses and build effective relationships


• Sound time management, work prioritisation and organisational skills with the proven capacity to work with limited supervision


• Sound research, analysis and problem-solving skills

Qualifications, training and licenses required:

• Current National Police Clearance or willing to obtain
