Job summary

Regional Livestock Exchanges (RLX) at Leongatha seeks a motivated Yardhand to join our team. You will coordinate the movement of livestock within the facility, manage Prime and Store cattle deliveries, assist in sale day activities, and support daily cleaning and maintenance of cattle and sheep areas.

Candidates should have proven livestock handling experience, a commitment to animal welfare, a current driver’s license, First Aid, and a willingness to obtain a Q fever vaccination.

Qualifications

• Experience in livestock handling and sale yard processes (essential).
• Commitment to animal welfare and safe work practices in a sale yard environment.
• Must hold a current state driver’s license.
• First Aid Certificate and Firearms License required.
• Humane destruction of animals and low-stress stock handling.
• Ability to perform manual tasks and meet physical demands.

• Q fever vaccination required or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the movement of livestock within the facility.

• Assist in sale day activities, including pre-sale scanning, post-sale weighing, and delivery for cattle sales.
• Reconcile animals sold and delivered.
• Assist with accounting and administration of sale day activities as required.
• Coordinate, organise and complete the general cleaning and maintenance of the site.
• Comply with and conduct regular animal welfare checks.
• Perform other duties as directed by the Livestock Manager.

Job description

Regional Livestock Exchanges (RLX) is a leading agriculture organisation with core strengths of Infrastructure Management, stock handling and sales services, our operations are located throughout the eastern seaboard. This role is located at 670 South Gippsland Hwy, Koonwarra VIC, EVLX formerly (VLE).

EVLX joined the RLX portfolio in 2026, after being operated by Victorian Livestock Exchange since opening at the Leongatha site in 2006.

Leongatha was the largest throughput saleyard in Victoria in four of the past five years, with almost a quarter of reported saleyard cattle in Victoria transacted through the site in FY25, hosting weekly Prime and Store Cattle sales along with seasonal Sheep sales.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate the movement of livestock within the facility.
• Manage both Prime and Store cattle deliveries.
• Undertake the feeding of livestock.
• Assist in various sale day activities, including pre-sale scanning of livestock, post-sale weighing, and delivery for cattle sales. receiving, drafting and mouthing cattle.
• Reconcile animals sold and delivered.
• Assist with accounting and administration of sale day activities as required.
• Coordinate, organise and complete the general cleaning and maintenance of the site, with a focus on weekly cleaning of cattle and sheep facilities.
• Comply with and conduct regular animal welfare checks.
• Perform other duties as directed by the Livestock Manager.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in livestock handling (Essential) and sale yard processes
• Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of animal welfare and safe work practices in a sale yard environment
• Current State Drivers License
• First Aid Certificate
