Job summary

Regional Livestock Exchanges (RLX) is seeking an experienced maintenance leader to keep critical infrastructure operating safely and efficiently at the Leongatha site in VIC. You will support maintenance performance across a fast-paced livestock environment.

The role requires proven maintenance experience with farm infrastructure, water systems, and basic fabrication. A Q fever vaccination is required or willingness to obtain one, with entry to a site in regional Victoria.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in plant and equipment maintenance.
• Light fabrication and welding experience preferred.
• Knowledge of pumps and livestock watering systems is essential.
• First Aid Certificate required.
• Basic plumbing knowledge is desirable.
• Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices in a sale yard environment.
• Willingness to work in a dynamic operational environment.
• Computer skills to maintain electronic data bases.

Responsibilities

• General cleaning and maintenance of site assets including buildings, sheds, machinery, yards and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with safety and WHS processes and relevant legislation.
• Maintenance of water troughs, truck wash and sediment traps.
• Aerating the cattle pavilion floor as required.
• Assist with sale day operations and cattle handling.
• Maintenance of effluent systems and fencing.

Job description

Regional Livestock Exchanges (RLX) is a leading agriculture organisation with core strengths of Infrastructure Management, stock handling and sales services, our operations are located throughout the eastern seaboard. This role is located at 670 South Gippsland Hwy, Koonwarra VIC, EVLX formerly (VLE).

EVLX joined the RLX portfolio in 2026, after being operated by Victorian Livestock Exchange since opening at the Leongatha site in 2006.

Leongatha was the largest throughput saleyard in Victoria in four of the past five years, with almost a quarter of reported saleyard cattle in Victoria transacted through the site in FY25, hosting weekly Prime and Store Cattle sales along with seasonal Sheep sales.

About the Role:

Are you an experienced maintenance leader who enjoys keeping critical infrastructure operating safely, reliably and efficiently? This is an opportunity to support the maintenance performance in a fast-paced livestock environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• General cleaning and maintenance of the site assets including buildings, sheds, machinery, vehicles, yards and equipment ensuring all areas in and around the site are clean, tidy and well maintained;
• Comply with safe work practices and Workplace Health& Safety processes and procedures, relevant legislation, licensing and codes of practice in the delivery of maintenance activities;
• Cleaning and maintenance of water troughs, truck wash and sediment trap;
• Aerating the soft floor in the cattle pavilion;
• Assistance with sale day operations as required;
• Effluent maintenance;
• Monitoring stock on agistment;
• Fence maintenance;

Qualifications and Skills:

• Proven experience in plant and equipment maintenance.
• Light Fabrication and welding experience
• Knowledge of plant and equipment such as loaders, tractors, bobcats
• Knowledge of pumps and livestock watering systems.
• First Aid Certificate
• Sound computer skills and the ability to maintain electronic data base system.
• Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of safe work practices in a sale yard environment.
• Basic Plumbing knowledge.
• Willingness to work in a dynamic operational environment
