Job summary

Melton City Libraries, part of Melton City Council, seeks a creative storyteller and program facilitator to develop and deliver early years and school years services. Based at Melton Library, the role includes Thursday evening and Saturday morning sessions.

You will report to the Team Leader Library Programs and Engagement, bringing passion for literacy, community engagement, and program development to a dynamic public library setting.

Qualifications

  • Certificate acceptable for technician membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.
  • Experience in public libraries or customer‑focussed organisations.
  • Passion for storytelling and community engagement.
  • Experience delivering programs for children.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain an Employee Working with Children Check.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality customer service across the library service to ensure customers have a positive experience characterized by active engagement.
  • Rostered library customer service shifts and outreach to maximise use of resources and platforms.
  • Support delivery of early years and school years programs with proposals and planning.
  • Facilitate and deliver a range of early years and primary school programs including story time, baby bounce, toddler time, outreach visits, school holiday programs, and after school programs.

Band 4 - Salary Range $74,283 to $ 78,754 per annum pro rata + 12% Super

The Opportunity

Melton City Libraries is seeking a creative and enthusiastic storyteller and program facilitator to develop and deliver early years and school years services and programs. Reporting to the Team Leader Library Programs and Engagement, this fixed term position is an exciting opportunity for those passionate about children’s literacy and learning. This part-time position is based at our Melton Library and Learning Hub, a state-of-the art community hub in the heart of Melton.

This position includes 1:4 Thursday evenings and 1:4 Saturday mornings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high quality customer service across the library service to ensure customers have a positive experience characterised by active engagement, providing direction to library officers as required.
  • Participate in rostered library customer service shifts at library facilities or outreach points and proactively engage with customers to maximise their use of resources, equipment, technology, and online platforms.
  • Support the delivery of early years and school years programs across the library service by developing program proposals and plans and contributing to the planning and evaluation of the calendar of events.
  • Facilitate and deliver a range of early years and primary school years programs across the library service including story time, baby bounce, toddler time, outreach visits, school holiday programs, New Parents Groups and after school programs.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following.

  • Completion of a certificate acceptable for technician membership of the Australian Library and Information Association with knowledge or skills gained through on-the-job training.
  • Experience working in public libraries, or a customer focussed organisation.
  • A passion for storytelling and community engagement, with a customer‑centric approach to your work.
  • Experience delivering programs for children.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain an Employee Working with Children Check.
