Job summary

The Life Sciences Application Specialist at the University of Sydney will play a leading role in enabling world-class life sciences research. Working in the Sydney Informatics Hub (SIH) Platforms Team, you will develop scalable, reproducible bioinformatics applications and workflows for HPC, GPU and cloud environments.

You will collaborate with researchers, SIH colleagues, ICT teams and national research infrastructure partners to deliver innovative bioinformatics solutions and help build

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification in bioinformatics, computational biology, life sciences, computer science or related field.
• Experience developing and deploying bioinformatics pipelines and workflows.
• Strong knowledge of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics or other omics data.
• Experience supporting bioinformatics infrastructure and open-source tools.
• Proficiency in Linux HPC, cloud computing and scripting (Python, shell).

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver scalable bioinformatics applications, workflows and services across HPC, GPU and cloud environments.
• Partner with researchers to translate objectives into reproducible computational solutions.
• Provide specialist advice on bioinformatics tools, data management and computing resources.
• Maintain and enhance shared software environments, datasets and workflow resources.
• Design and deliver training, documentation and user support to strengthen researcher capability.
• Contribute to the evolution of the Sydney Research Cloud through service development and collaboration.
