Job summary

The University of Sydney is seeking a Life Sciences Application Specialist to enable premier life sciences research. You will develop scalable bioinformatics applications and workflows across HPC, GPU and cloud environments within the Sydney Informatics Hub Platforms Team.

Collaborating with researchers, SIH colleagues, ICT and national partners, you will translate scientific goals into reproducible computational solutions and provide training and support to researchers and staff.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualifications in bioinformatics, computational biology, life sciences, or related field.
• Experience developing and deploying bioinformatics pipelines with Nextflow and Snakemake.
• Experience with genomics/transcriptomics/proteomics big data.
• Experience supporting bioinformatics infrastructure and open-source tools.
• Strong Linux, HPC, cloud, and scripting (Python, shell).
• Ability to communicate with researchers and provide training.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver scalable bioinformatics applications, workflows and services across HPC, GPU and cloud environments.
• Collaborate with researchers to translate scientific objectives into reproducible computational solutions and analysis pipelines.
• Provide specialist advice on bioinformatics tools, computational biology approaches, data management and research computing resources.
• Maintain and enhance shared software environments, reference datasets, workflow resources and bioinformatics infrastructure.
• Design and deliver training, documentation and user support that strengthens researcher capability.
• Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the Sydney Research Cloud through service development and collaboration.
