Job summary

Central Highlands Regional Council is offering a full-time, 18-month trainee position in Emerald to support the Libraries team. You will gain hands-on experience while pursuing a Certificate III in Library and Information Services, learning about library systems and community programs.

Ideal candidates are 17+ years old, reliable, and enthusiastic about customer service and teamwork. A Queensland C Class Provisional Driver’s Licence is required where applicable.

Qualifications

• Be at least 17 years of age and not currently at school.
• Willingness to undertake a Certificate III in Library and Information Services.
• Current Queensland C Class Provisional Driver’s Licence
• Meet citizen, residency, and visa requirements for Australia.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service at library service points (enquiries, memberships, borrowing).
• Maintain library collections through shelving and shelf-tidying.
• Assist with processing, preparation, and cataloguing of materials under supervision.
• Create and maintain displays and promotional materials.
• Support delivery of library programs and community events.
• Assist with early literacy and family engagement initiatives.
• Support outreach and build connections with schools and community groups.
• Develop skills in library systems, digital resources, and collection management.
