Job summary

EML in Melbourne is seeking a dedicated Liability Specialist to assess liability across allocated workers' compensation claims, ensuring decisions are supported by legislation and internal guidelines. This is a permanent, full-time role with hybrid work options and a focus on clear documentation and timely determinations.

If you bring experience in liability decisions within insurance, strong empathy, and resilience, you will fit well.

Qualifications

• Experience assessing liability in workers' compensation claims.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and guidelines.
• Ability to manage complex or sensitive claims with empathy.
• Allied Health qualifications preferred or advantageous.

What You'll Be Doing

• Assess all aspects of liability on your allocated claims pursuant to legislation, guidelines and authorised limits.
• Meet required time frames and keep all key stakeholders informed of progress.
• Proactively manage claim determinations for complex claims, ensuring clear documentation of actions throughout the determination process.
• Maintain accuracy of claim determination data in WorkSafe's and EML's systems.

What We're Looking For

It's ok if you haven't done this before, what matters most is your commitment to helping others that can make you a great fit for the role. Do you have...

• Experience assessing and determining liability in workers compensation claims is highly regarded. Alternatively, experience making liability decisions within another insurance setting is required.
• Strong understanding of relevant legislation, regulations and guidelines, with the ability to apply these to complex claims and liability decisions.
• Experience managing complex or sensitive claims, ideally involving psychological injuries, significant physical injuries, medically complex circumstances or fatalities.
• High levels of resilience and empathy, with the confidence to navigate complex conversations, explain decisions clearly and resolve conflict.
• Tertiary qualifications in Allied Health, including Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work or Exercise Science, and/or a Mental Health First Aid certificate would be advantageous.
