Job summary

Redpath Mining seeks a Leading Hand Shaft Electrician to oversee electrical maintenance of shaft sinking infrastructure on site at Appin. You will supervise a crew, ensure safety, perform routine and breakdown maintenance on hoisting and control systems, and coordinate daily activities with operations to meet targets.

The role requires extensive mining electrical experience, current electrical licence, and site-specific certifications.

Leading Hand Shaft Electrician | Redpath Mining |Appin | 15/13 Roster | Full-Time Permanent Role

About the Role

As a Leading Hand Shaft Electrician, you will provide hands on supervision of the electrical maintenance and repair of shaft sinking infrastructure, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of electrical, control, and communications systems on site.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain a strong commitment to safety and ensure compliance with all safety and operational procedures in confined and vertical shaft environments.
• Lead and supervise the electrical crew, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
• Coordinate daily activities, allocate tasks, and provide direction to the team in the absence of the Supervisor.
• Mentor and support electricians, apprentices, and trades assistants, promoting safe work practices and ongoing skill development.
• Perform routine, preventative, and breakdown maintenance on powered winding systems and shaft related electrical infrastructure.
• Diagnose faults and carry out repairs to control circuits, variable speed drives, and communication networks.
• Monitor and optimise hoisting system performance through SCADA and control system diagnostics.
• Installation, maintenance and repair of EEHA equipment in an underground coal mining environment
• Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments, pre-start checks, and safety observations to ensure compliance with statutory and site requirements.
• Complete shift reports and ensure all electrical work is performed in accordance with relevant procedures, standards, and regulatory requirements.

About You:

• Australian citizenship or PR.
• Extensive experience in electrical installation and maintenance within the mining industry.
• Current Electrical Licence, Switchboard Rescue, CPR & LVR/EAR certifications.
• Current Working at Heights certification.
• Demonstrated leadership and team supervision experience.
• Strong troubleshooting, fault-finding, and diagnostic skills.
• Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and coordinate work to meet operational targets.
