Job summary

Redpath Mining is seeking a hands-on Leading Hand Fitter to join the maintenance team in a FIFO Perth role. You will lead a workshop crew, plan maintenance activities, and provide technical mentoring to tradespersons and apprentices while ensuring safety and quality workmanship.

Ideal candidates will have a Heavy Vehicle Mobile Equipment or Diesel Fitter qualification, strong fault diagnosis skills, and the ability to work under pressure in an underground mining environment.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as Heavy Vehicle Mobile Equipment or Diesel Fitter.
• Experience maintaining underground mining equipment.
• Ability to lead, plan and problem-solve under pressure.
• Strong communication and teamwork.
• Current manual driver's licence and First Aid & CPR qualification.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the maintenance workshop team safely and efficiently.
• Plan, allocate and monitor repairs, servicing and scheduled maintenance.
• Mentor tradespersons and apprentices in mechanical and hydraulic fault diagnosis.
• Maintain communication with supervisors and operators with progress updates.
• Complete administrative tasks: shift reports, maintenance docs, goods receipting and inventory.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Fitter Leading Hand to join our maintenance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on leader who is committed to safety, quality workmanship, and delivering reliable maintenance outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the workshop maintenance team, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, while acting independently in the absence of the Workshop Supervisor.
• Plan, allocate, and monitor repairs, servicing, and scheduled maintenance activities, including issuing work orders and ensuring compliance with technical procedures and statutory requirements.
• Provide leadership, technical support, and mentoring to tradespersons and apprentices, assisting with complex mechanical and hydraulic fault diagnosis and repairs as required.
• Maintain effective communication with supervisors and operators, providing regular updates on maintenance progress and equipment availability.
• Complete all required administrative tasks accurately and on time, including daily shift reports, maintenance documentation, goods receipting, and inventory management.

Qualifications

• Relevant trade qualification as a Heavy Vehicle Mobile Equipment or Diesel Fitter, with experience maintaining underground mining equipment.
• Demonstrated mechanical troubleshooting skills, including fault finding, interpreting schematics, and knowledge of auto electrical systems.
• Proven leadership ability with strong planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team or independently while following instructions accurately.
• Current manual driver's licence and First Aid & CPR qualification, with a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
