Job summary

Loram is seeking a Leading Hand in Melbourne, Victoria to coordinate, program and supervise maintenance strategies for track maintenance plant, aiming for high-quality output. The role is predominantly night shift with a varying roster and relocation support is offered.

You will lead a team, respond to breakdowns, and oversee repairs and servicing of pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and electronic systems, while ensuring safety and productivity under WHS and Rail Rectification

Qualifications

  • Mechanical or Electrical Trade Certificate.
  • Extensive knowledge of day-to-day coordinating, programming and supervising maintenance of high production track maintenance plant.
  • Substantial knowledge of maintenance and servicing of pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Substantial team leadership and people management skills.
  • Sound interpersonal and written communication and negotiating skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, program and supervise maintenance of high production track maintenance plant.
  • Respond to breakdowns and repairs for plant within the Rail Rectification Consist.
  • Supervise repairs, maintenance and servicing of complex systems.
  • Review work practices to improve productivity and safety under WHS rules and Rail Rectification QA system.
  • Implement participative supervision and oversee on-site training for Tradesperson operators.

About the role:

The Leading Hand takes responsibility to coordinate, program and supervise the maintenance strategies for plant and equipment enabling it to produce an acceptable rate of production at a high-quality output.

Work structure:

Predominantly night shift - Varying roster (dependent on scope of work)

Responsibilities also include:
  • Coordinate, program and supervise the maintenance of high production track maintenance plant.
  • Respond to breakdowns and repairs associated with plant within the Rail Rectification Consist in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Supervise the repairs, maintenance, and servicing of complex pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Review work practices, positions, processes, and machine performance introducing new technology and systems here appropriate to improve productivity and safety in line with the Workplace Health and Safety Act, policies, rules, regulations and Safeworking procedures and the Rail Rectification Quality System.
  • Implement a participative style of supervision with a major emphasis on communication and consultation in a team-based work environment and review staff performance and encourage staff development including overseeing on-site training for Tradesperson operators.
  • Identify, measure and report rail profiles as required.
  • Input data into computers and ensure the timely completion of maintenance schedule sheets and perform basic administrative work as required.
About you:

Along with your commitment to excellence in health and safety, you will also have:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Trade Certificate.
  • Extensive knowledge of the day-to-day coordinating, programming, and supervising of maintenance and repair of high production track maintenance plant.
  • Substantial knowledge of maintenance and servicing of complex pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems used in track maintenance plant.
  • Substantial team leadership and people management skills.
  • effectively with supervisors and other technical staff by sound interpersonal oral and written communication and negotiating skills.
  • Sound level of skill in operating autonomously in a team environment within defined budgets and time limitations.
  • Sound knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety regulations, Quality Assurance principles, policies, rules, regulations, and safe working regulations.
