Job summary

Redpath Mining is seeking an experienced Lead Hand Fitter to join the maintenance team on a FIFO Perth schedule. The role focuses on safety, quality workmanship, and delivering reliable maintenance outcomes.

You will lead a workshop team, plan and monitor maintenance activities, mentor tradespeople, and ensure compliance with procedures and regulations. A strong safety mindset and leadership ability are essential.

Qualifications

• Relevant trade qualification as a Heavy Vehicle Mobile Equipment or Diesel Fitter with underground mining equipment experience.
• Demonstrated mechanical troubleshooting skills including fault finding, schematics interpretation, and auto electrical knowledge.
• Proven leadership with strong planning, organisational and problem-solving skills under pressure.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work in a team or independently following instructions.
• Current manual driver’s licence and First Aid & CPR qualification with a safety-focused mindset.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the workshop maintenance team, ensuring safe, efficient, high-quality work; act independently when the Workshop Supervisor is absent.
• Plan, allocate, and monitor repairs, servicing, and scheduled maintenance with work orders; ensure procedures and regulatory compliance.
• Provide leadership and mentoring to tradespersons and apprentices; assist with mechanical/hydraulic fault diagnosis and repair.
• Maintain clear communication with supervisors and operators; provide progress updates and equipment availability.
• Complete all required administrative tasks, including shift reports, documentation, goods receipt, and inventory control.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the workshop maintenance team, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, while acting independently in the absence of the Workshop Supervisor.
• Plan, allocate, and monitor repairs, servicing, and scheduled maintenance activities, including issuing work orders and ensuring compliance with technical procedures and statutory requirements.
• Provide leadership, technical support, and mentoring to tradespersons and apprentices, assisting with complex mechanical and hydraulic fault diagnosis and repairs as required.
• Maintain effective communication with supervisors and operators, providing regular updates on maintenance progress and equipment availability.
• Complete all required administrative tasks accurately and on time, including daily shift reports, maintenance documentation, goods receipting, and inventory management.

Qualifications

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

• Relevant trade qualification as a Heavy Vehicle Mobile Equipment or Diesel Fitter, with experience maintaining underground mining equipment.
• Demonstrated mechanical troubleshooting skills, including fault finding, interpreting schematics, and knowledge of auto electrical systems.
• Proven leadership ability with strong planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team or independently while following instructions accurately.
• Current manual driver's licence and First Aid & CPR qualification, with a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
