Job summary

AECOM's Buildings & Places team in Melbourne is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to provide technical leadership and design input across health, education, defence, transport, aviation, and commercial projects. You will coordinate resources across the National Building Structures and Civil Engineering team, ensuring delivery within budgets and schedules.

You will mentor staff, lead complex design efforts, and build strong client relationships while advancing AECOM's structural portfolio

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with 9+ years of experience.
• Proven ability to provide specialist structural input across conceptual and detailed design.
• Experience with advanced digital design workflows and software ETABS, RAM Concept, RAPT and SpaceGASS.
• Strong organizational and planning skills; ability to coordinate resources across multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of complex building projects across key markets including health, education, defence, transport, commercial, aviation, sports and data centres.
• Lead and contribute to conceptual and detailed structural design and construction administration, delivering practical, high-quality and cost-effective solutions.
• Provide technical leadership across structural building design, ensuring compliance with Australian codes, standards and engineering best practice.
• Prepare and review design calculations, specifications, models and technical documentation, ensuring quality and well-coordinated design outcomes.
• Build strong client relationships, support business development and contribute to winning work and growing AECOM's structural engineering portfolio.
• Work closely with clients, other disciplines and project teams to coordinate design outcomes, manage project requirements and meet budgets and schedules.
• Lead, mentor and develop team members, supporting technical excellence, career development and a positive team culture.
• Coordinate workforce planning and resource allocation across our national Building Structures and Civil team, monitoring workloads and future demand to balance project priorities, team capacity and business needs.
