Job summary

NEXTDC is seeking an experienced HV Engineer to provide national technical leadership across the growing HV network. Based in Sydney, you will operate across NEXTDC’s existing and future HV sites, offering governance and design assurance rather than owning a single site.

You’ll ensure compliance with standards, safety legislation and network operator requirements. You will own HV operating policy, coordinate protection studies, and support HV testing, commissioning and fault response.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience with HV electrical systems in mission-critical or large-scale environments.
• Deep knowledge of HV distribution, substations, GIS, RMUs, protection and control systems.
• Strong understanding of AS/NZS standards and network operator requirements.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain NEXTDC’s HV operating policy across the full voltage hierarchy (66kV, 22/33kV, RMUs, transformers, GIS, protection, switching, earthing).
• Ensure HV systems and equipment comply with AS/NZS standards and electrical safety legislation.
• Develop and maintain HV switching programs, protection coordination studies, relay settings registers and RMU procedures.
• Maintain relationships with network operators and regulators on HV connections and interfaces.
• Provide specialist review of new HV infrastructure including room sizing, busbar protection and substation layouts.
• Provide SME support across HV testing, commissioning, maintenance and fault response.
• Work across regulatory requirements to ensure a consistent HV operating framework across NEXTDC’s national portfolio.
