Job summary

NEXTDC in Sydney is seeking an experienced HV Engineer to provide national technical leadership across our growing HV network. This role focuses on governing the HV operating framework, regulatory compliance, and risk management as infrastructure scales from 66kV to LV.

Based in Sydney, you will work across NEXTDC’s national portfolio, reviewing designs, policies and switching programs to ensure safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience with HV electrical systems in mission-critical, utility, power generation, large industrial or hyperscale data centre environments.
• Deep technical knowledge of HV distribution systems including substations, transformers, GIS, RMUs, protection systems and control systems for 66kV and 22/33kV networks.
• Relevant HV authorisations and electrical licences.
• Strong knowledge of AS/NZS electrical standards, electrical safety legislation and network operator requirements.
• Experience developing HV operating policies, switching procedures and operational frameworks.
• Ability to identify design and operational risks before construction.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain NEXTDC’s HV operating policy across the full voltage hierarchy, including 66kV switch rooms and 22/33kV distribution.
• Develop and maintain HV switching programs, protection coordination studies, relay settings registers and RMU operating procedures.
• Provide SME support across HV testing, commissioning, maintenance and fault/emergency response.
• Lead or provide technical direction across HV testing, commissioning, maintenance and fault response.
• Engage with utilities, network operators and regulators on HV connection and network interface requirements.
