Job summary

Queensland Treasury Corporation invites an experienced employee relations practitioner to join People and Culture as Principal HR Business Partner in Brisbane. You will lead a small team and provide authoritative advice to senior leaders on complex employee relations matters.

You will drive performance and capability, handle disciplinary processes, grievances, and other formal employment matters, and translate legislation into clear, practical guidance.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience advising on and managing complex employee relations matters.
• Strong knowledge of contemporary employee relations practice and legislative/industrial frameworks.
• Sound judgement in managing sensitive, high‑risk or complex cases.
• Ability to provide clear, practical and defensible advice to senior leaders.
• Strong written skills with experience in briefs, correspondence, and case documentation.
• Ability to establish constructive relationships across a complex organisation.
• Experience leading, coaching or building capability of HR practitioners.
• Knowledge of CaPE reporting requirements (highly regarded).
• Experience in the Queensland public sector or similar regulated environment (well regarded).
• No mandatory qualifications required; relevant qualifications in HR or related discipline highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a small team delivering employee relations and workforce advisory services.
• Provide authoritative advice to senior leaders on complex and sensitive workplace matters.
• Oversee employee relations cases from initial assessment through to resolution.
• Advise on performance and capability, discipline, grievances, complaints and other formal processes.
• Interpret and apply legislation, industrial instruments, directives, policies and procedures.
• Support governance, procedural fairness, documentation and risk management.
• Coach HR Business Partners and strengthen the team’s employee relations capability.
• Monitor case trends, emerging risks and reporting requirements (CaPE-related).
• Lead improvements to ER policies, procedures, case-management practices and manager capability.
