Job summary

Compas Pty Ltd is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to drive delivery across a government data warehouse platform. The role focuses on SQL development, ETL, data modeling and ensuring robust data delivery across enterprise environments.

The position is based in Canberra with hybrid work arrangements and a 12-month contract with extension potential. The candidate will provide technical leadership, review data designs and implement SQL and ETL solutions.

Qualifications

Job description

Lead Data Engineer | SQL & Data Warehousing
Lead data engineering delivery across a complex government data warehouse platform, providing technical leadership, reviewing data designs and developing SQL and ETL solutions across enterprise data environments.

Location: QLD, SA, ACT, VIC, NSW
Work Arrangement: Hybrid
Contract Duration: 12 months with one 12-month extension option
Security Clearance Requirement: Must be able to obtain Baseline clearance

Essential Tasks

• Provide technical leadership through design reviews, workshops and implementation guidance.
• Own the technical implementation of new data from analysis through to delivery.
• Develop and maintain SQL analytical and ETL code, data models and documentation.
• Improve data delivery frameworks, coding standards, release processes and development practices.

Key Criteria

• Strong competency developing, auditing and reviewing code across at least two of MS SQL, Teradata, Snowflake, Redshift and Databricks.
• High-level programming capability using languages such as Python, SAS, R or Java.
• Advanced SQL expertise, including reverse-engineering end-user SQL and interpreting data models and specifications.
• Sound knowledge of DevOps processes, DevOps tools and version control practices.
