Qualifications

• Experience delivering solutions in enterprise data warehouse platforms (MS SQL, Teradata, Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks or equivalent).
• Advanced programming including SQL and a language such as Python, SAS, R, or Java.
• Strong SQL development, optimization, troubleshooting, and understanding of existing code.
• Ability to interpret data models, technical specifications, and solution designs.
• Experience in DevOps and modern software development/delivery practices.
• Experience using version control and release management processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership to data delivery teams through design reviews and best practices.
• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise data integration, ETL processes, and datasets.
• Lead implementation of new data assets from analysis to deployment and support.
• Review data delivery frameworks and engineering practices to improve performance.
• Develop and maintain SQL analytical code and ETL processes with documentation.
• Conduct peer reviews of code and data models for standards compliance.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into scalable data solutions.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, developers, testers and support teams to deliver data solutions.
• Facilitate knowledge transfer and capability uplift within Data Services.
• Contribute to backlog prioritization, planning, and continuous improvement.

• Essential criteria1.Demonstrated experience developing, auditing, reviewing, and supporting solutions within enterprise data warehouse platforms such as MS SQL, Teradata, Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, or equivalent technologies.
• 2.Advanced programming capability, including strong experience with SQL and one or more languages such as Python, SAS, R, or Java.
• 3.Strong expertise in SQL development, optimisation, troubleshooting, and reverse engineering existing code.

Job Description

The EL1 Data Engineer is a senior member of the Data Services team and provides technical leadership across enterprise data initiatives.

The role is responsible for hands-on development, technical design, data modelling, code review, and implementation activities across enterprise data platforms. The Data Engineer works closely with business stakeholders, architects, analysts, developers, testers, and support teams to deliver high-quality, scalable, and maintainable data solutions while driving continuous improvement across data engineering practices.

Key duties and responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and guidance to data delivery teams through design reviews, technical advice, and implementation best practices.
  
• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise data integration solutions, ETL processes, and analytical datasets.
  
• Lead the technical implementation of new data assets from analysis and design through to deployment and operational support.
  
• Review and enhance data delivery frameworks, development standards, and engineering practices to improve delivery efficiency and platform performance.
  
• Develop and maintain SQL analytical code, ETL processes, and supporting technical documentation.
  
• Conduct peer reviews of code, data models, and technical designs to ensure compliance with established standards.
  
• Analyse business requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions and data assets.
