Job summary

SMEC in Perth is seeking a Principal Engineer – Bridges & Structures to lead major transport infrastructure design. You will direct structural design across bridges and related works, guiding multidisciplinary teams to deliver at a high standard while managing budgets and schedules.

You will influence client engagements, contribute to business development, and mentor junior engineers as part of a national and international Bridges & Structures team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
• 15+ years' experience in structural bridge design within the transport infrastructure sector (Australia-based).
• Experience delivering projects >$1M and leading multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
• Strong technical writing, leadership, and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and review structural design across bridges, retaining walls, and complex transport infrastructure.
• Guide multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering outcomes on time and within budget.
• Oversee project delivery with robust design, compliance, and client satisfaction.
• Develop relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
• Contribute to business development and strategic planning, including team resourcing and performance objectives.
• Support professional development and retention of junior engineers through coaching and mentoring.
