Job summary

Xero is seeking a Lead Engineer in its Internal AI Accelerator Squad to drive AI-native transformation. You will embed with internal teams to co-design and operationalise agentic AI workflows, removing toil and reshaping how people work end-to-end.

You will lead delivery of AI agents from discovery to production, defining patterns and tooling for safe automation while evangelising best practices across the business.

Qualifications

• Experience building and operating production applications or automations with APIs and cloud infrastructure.
• Hands-on delivery of AI-driven solutions (agents, copilots, or RAG systems) using LLMs.
• Proficiency in Python or TypeScript and working with SDKs and webhooks.
• Systems-thinking approach prioritising security, auditability and blast radius control.
• Track record partnering with non-technical stakeholders to translate pain points into designs.
• Natural coach who uplifts AI fluency through pairing and workshops.

Responsibilities

• Lead creation and deployment of high-stakes AI agents from discovery to production.
• Define patterns, guardrails and tooling for intelligent automation.
• Partner with product owners and SMEs to convert complex workflows into automated solutions.
• Build evaluation and monitoring frameworks to measure performance and safety.
