San Clemente Catholic College Mayfield is seeking a part-time Laboratory Assistant (approximately 6 hours per week) to support science teachers and ensure safe, ready-to-use laboratory spaces for lessons. The role requires preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and assisting with practical activities for years 7–10 as the school expands to Stage 6 from 2026.

Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to Catholic education, strong teamwork, and meticulous attention to safety and regulatory

Qualifications

  • Articulate a clear understanding of Catholic Education and support for Catholic ethos.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students and community.
  • Maintain science laboratories and equipment in clean, safe condition for classes.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Prepare laboratory solutions and handle, store, and dispose of chemicals per regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organise, prioritise and multitask to meet deadlines.

San Clemente Catholic College Mayfield is seeking atemporary part time (6hrs p/w) Laboratory Assistantto join the team as soon as possible for the remainder of the year.

The Laboratory Assistant is directly responsible to the Leader of Learning Science and works in collaboration with Science Teachers to ensure materials are prepared safely and in a timely manner for the delivery of the Science curriculum, and that resources and facilities are well maintained. The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for the ordering of equipment and may be involved directly with timetabled classes (including excursions when appropriate).

Desired Skills and Experience
EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA
  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic Education and to actively supporting the Catholic ethos and culture of the school
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate with school staff, students and the community
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain the school science laboratories and general science equipment in a clean and workable order for science classes, organising repairs as necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a safe working environment
  • Experience in preparation of laboratory solutions and handling, storage and disposal of chemicals in compliance with regulations
  • Excellent written communication skills and strong verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and multitask to meet various deadline
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certificate III in Laboratory Skills or equivalent
  • Current paid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) number
  • Completion of anaphylaxis training
