Job summary

St John Bosco College Engadine, part of Sydney Catholic Schools, is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Assistant to support the Science faculty. The role is part-time (42 hours per fortnight) with permanency (3 days per week), reporting to the Science Coordinator and ensuring a safe, well-equipped learning environment.

Applicants should hold a science qualification (eg Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques or Diploma of Laboratory Technology), be familiar with WHS and risk assessment, and able to

Qualifications

• Capacity to safely and effectively prepare Science practicals and experiments.
• Ability to use RiskAssess and be able to accurately assess risk assessments
• Ability to use Chemwatch or be willing to learn
• A sound understanding of Workplace Health and Safety requirements including the safe management, storage, handling and labelling of hazardous material
• Capacity to work collaboratively as part of a team and at times autonomously
• A willingness to undergo any relevant training appropriate for the role
• Suitable qualification in Science eg Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques, Diploma of Laboratory Technology
• Commitment to supporting a positive religious and cultural Catholic School environment.

About You

St John Bosco College Engadine is seeking an enthusiastic and suitably experienced Laboratory Assistant who is passionate about Science to support our Science faculty. Responsible to the Science Coordinator, the Laboratory Assistant maintains adequate operational systems and oversees the effective day-to-day running of science resources. The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for providing a safe teaching and learning environment and ensures administrative tasks are completed. You must be able to demonstrate:

• capacity to safely and effectively prepare Science practicals and experiments
• ability to use RiskAssess and be able to accurately assess risk assessments
• ability to use Chemwatch or be willing to learn
• a sound understanding of Workplace Health and Safety requirements including the safe management, storage, handling and labelling of hazardous material
