Job summary

Stanbroke is seeking a Kitchen Hand / Trainee Cook at our Fairy Meadow kitchen near Chinchilla. You will learn to prepare, cook and bake meals for around 50 people, while keeping the kitchen running smoothly.

You'll gain hands-on training from an experienced Cook, with a supportive, family-like team and a roster of 10 days on, 4 days off. Onsite accommodation and meals are provided to support your growth in a rural setting.

Qualifications

• Interest in food and desire to build a career as a Cook.
• Good organisation and time management.
• Self-starter who is also a strong team player.
• Willingness to learn and take direction.
• Basic budgeting or cost awareness for kitchen supplies.
• Solid work ethic and can-do attitude.
• Understanding of WH&S and food hygiene practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist with prep, cooking and baking for lunches, sandwiches and dinner.
• Learn to bake rotating cakes, biscuits, slices and other treats.
• Help prepare sandwiches, salads and deli meats for daily lunches.
• Support stock rotation, labelling and cool room/dry store organisation.
• Assist with ordering and maintaining kitchen supplies.
• Wash up and keep kitchen, dining room and toilets clean.
• Remove rubbish and perform general kitchen upkeep.
• Read, understand and follow the food program.
• Learn safe food handling and hygiene practices.

We're on the lookout for a Kitchen Hand who's ready to learn the ropes as a Trainee Cook, bringing flavour and nourishment to our team at the Fairy Meadow kitchen, based at our feedlot near Chinchilla.

What you'll be doing

As our Kitchen Hand / Trainee Cook, you'll work alongside our Cook, learning the skills to prepare, cook and bake meals for around 50 people while keeping the kitchen running smoothly. Your day will include:

• Assisting with prep, cooking and baking for cooked lunches, sandwiches and dinner
• Learning to bake a rotating selection of cakes, biscuits, slices and other treats
• Helping prepare sandwiches, salads and deli meat for daily lunches
• Supporting stock rotation, labelling, and cool room/dry store organisation
• Assisting with ordering and maintaining kitchen supplies
• Washing up and keeping the kitchen, dining room and toilets clean
• Removing rubbish and general kitchen upkeep
• Reading, understanding and following the food program
• Learning safe food handling and hygiene practices as you go
