Job summary

Guardian Childcare & Education Sunnybank is seeking a Kitchen Hand to support the Centre Chef in preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children, in a safe, clean and welcoming kitchen. You'll assist with daily kitchen operations, food prep, stock rotation, and ensure high standards of food safety and hygiene while learning about healthy eating and childcare environments.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a kitchen, hospitality, food service, or childcare environment is desirable.
• Knowledge of safe food handling and hygiene practices.
• Awareness of responsibilities under Child Protection Laws.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and serving of nutritious meals and snacks for children.
• Support daily kitchen operations, including cleaning, food preparation, and stock rotation.
• Maintain high standards of food safety, cleanliness, and hygiene.
• Ensure kitchen equipment and preparation areas are clean and organised.
• Support individual dietary, allergy, cultural, and medical requirements.

The Opportunity

Working closely with the Centre Chef, you'll enjoy:

• Assisting with the preparation and serving of nutritious meals and snacks for children
• Supporting daily kitchen operations, including cleaning, food preparation, and stock rotation
• Maintaining high standards of food safety, cleanliness, and hygiene
• Ensuring kitchen equipment, utensils, and food preparation areas are clean and organised
• Supporting individual dietary, allergy, cultural, and medical requirements
• Building positive relationships with children, educators, families, and the wider centre community
• Contributing to children's health, wellbeing, and positive food experiences each day

To be considered, you will have:

• Previous experience in a kitchen, hospitality, food service, or childcare environment (desirable)
• Food Handling Certificate and/or Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (desirable)
• Knowledge of safe food handling and hygiene practices
• An awareness of your personal responsibilities under current Child Protection Laws
• Current Working with Children's Check or state equivalent
