Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients for cooking, including washing, peeling, chopping and portioning vegetables, meats and other items.
• Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment, including washing dishes and surfaces.
• Assist kitchen staff with food preparation and cooking tasks as directed.
• Manage food storage and organisation according to safety standards.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely, including dishwashers and prep machinery.
• Monitor stock levels and report shortages to senior staff.
• Follow food safety, health and hygiene regulations and procedures.
• Support the wider kitchen team to meet service times and maintain quality.
• Clean kitchen, storage and service areas and related facilities.

The Waterline Restaurant is seeking a Kitchen Hand to join our hospitality team on a casual basis. Based in Yeppoon, QLD, this role is essential to maintaining the smooth operation of our kitchen and ensuring our guests receive exceptional dining experiences. You will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where attention to detail, cleanliness, and teamwork are paramount. This position offers flexibility and the opportunity to develop valuable experience in the hospitality sector.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing ingredients for cooking, including washing, peeling, chopping and portioning vegetables, meats and other food items
• Maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen environment, including washing dishes, utensils and food preparation surfaces
• Assisting kitchen staff with food preparation and cooking tasks as directed
• Managing food storage and organisation in accordance with food safety standards
• Operating kitchen equipment safely, including dishwashers and food preparation machinery
• Monitoring stock levels and reporting any shortages to senior kitchen staff
• Following all food safety, health and hygiene regulations and company procedures
• Supporting the wider kitchen team to meet service times and maintain food quality standards
• Cleaning kitchen, food storage and restaurant service areas and associated facilities

• Previous experience working in a kitchen environment, preferably in a hospitality setting
• A strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards

• A current Food Handling Certificate or willingness to obtain one
