Job summary

The Plaza Hotel in Sydney is seeking a reliable Kitchen Hand to support our busy kitchen and maintain high hygiene standards. You’ll help with dishwashing, basic food prep, and stocking deliveries while keeping work areas clean and safe.

No previous kitchen experience is required, as we provide full training. A positive attitude, teamwork, and flexibility to work across trading days are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Must have a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
• Ability to stay calm and efficient under pressure.
• Good attention to detail, especially for cleanliness and safety.
• Be a team player willing to pitch in where needed.
• Flexibility to work across trading days.
• Hold a current Food Handling certificate or be willing to obtain one.
• Kitchen experience is helpful but not required; training provided.

Responsibilities

• Dishwashing and general kitchen cleaning throughout service.
• Assist with basic food preparation as directed by the kitchen team.
• Receive, check and store deliveries correctly.
• Maintain cleanliness of coolrooms, storage areas and workstations to food safety standards.
• Manage rubbish and recycling, and keep the kitchen presentable.
• Support the team during busy service periods.

The Plaza Hotel is looking for a reliable Kitchen Hand to join our team and help keep our kitchen running smoothly, day in and day out.

About the role

You’ll be a key part of our kitchen’s daily operation, supporting our chefs and keeping everything clean, organised and compliant. Your responsibilities will include:

• Dishwashing and general kitchen cleaning throughout service
• Assisting with basic food preparation as directed by the kitchen team
• Receiving, checking and correctly storing deliveries
• Maintaining cleanliness of coolrooms, storage areas and workstations to food safety standards
• Managing rubbish and recycling, and keeping the kitchen presentable at all times
• Supporting the team during busy service periods

What we're looking for

• A positive attitude and strong work ethic
• Ability to stay calm and efficient under pressure
• Good attention to detail, particularly around cleanliness and food safety
• A team player who’s happy to pitch in wherever needed
• Flexibility to work across our trading days
• A current Food Handling certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
• Previous kitchen experience is helpful but not essential — we’ll train the right person
