Job summary

AKD Softwoods in Oberon is seeking a committed kiln operator to join our Oberon kilns team. You will learn to load and operate batch kilns in a safe, productive environment to deliver quality timber products.

This hands-on role involves rosters that rotate between day and night shifts from 6:00am–6:00pm and 6:00pm–6:00am. Training will be provided; forklift experience and basic computer skills are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work rotating shift roster.
• Willing to undertake training and development.
• Experience with forklifts and moving timber is preferred.
• Basic computer knowledge is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Operate and load batch kilns in Oberon site.
• Follow safe systems of work and quality controls for all activities.
• Be attentive to detail to ensure a high‑quality product.
• undertake training for mobile plant as required.
• Work the day/night roster (6:00am–6:00pm / 6:00pm–6:00am).

We are looking for a committed employee that is willing to train and develop as a kiln operator to join our Oberon kilns team with responsibility for operating and loading our batch kilns at our Oberon site.

This ‘hands on’ position is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment within the kilns department for optimum productivity, recovery and compliance with quality control systems.

This position will work an attractive roster, rotating between day and night shift, working 6:00am – 6:00pm for day shift and 6:00pm – 6:00am for night shift.

Although not essential it is preferable that the successful candidate be experienced in operating forklifts, and ideally have experience moving packs of timber. Training will be provided to build knowledge of our batch kilns process with a requirement of basic computer knowledge needed for this position.

The successful applicant will:

• Ensure safe systems of work are followed for all activities
• Set up and operate kilns and boilers effectively and according to standards
• Previous experience is preferrable however training will be provided in operating mobile plant
• Have a high standard of attention to detail, ensuring a quality product is delivered safely every time
• Preferably have experience working long shifts and rosters involving night work
