Job summary

AKD Softwoods is offering an Electrical Apprentice position at our Oberon site, part of a national apprenticeship program. You will gain a Certificate III in Electrotechnology - Electrician while working hands-on with industrial equipment and automation systems.

AKD apprentices receive comprehensive training from skilled tradespeople, with opportunities to work across our state-of-the-art facilities, learn PLCs, trouble-shoot, and grow into a qualified electrician over a four-year commitment.

Qualifications

• Pursue a 4‑year full-time apprenticeship with on‑the‑job training and trade school.
• Enrolment in Certificate III in Electrotechnology - Electrician is required or in progress.
• Willingness to learn across industrial equipment and automation technologies.
• Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and functional capacity testing are required.

Responsibilities

• As an Apprentice Electrician you will install, repair, and maintain electrical parts of industrial equipment (generators, transformers, switchboards, panels).
• Interpret technical documents and electrical diagrams to support maintenance tasks.
• Perform preventative maintenance and fault finding with root-cause analysis.
• Interpret PLC logic programs and provide technical support to the team.
• Learn across multiple plant areas and gain exposure to state‑of‑the‑art equipment and AI integrations.

As an Apprentice Electrician you will gain qualification in Certificate III in Electrotechnology - Electrician.

AKD electricians are trained in industrial and systems engineering, and they use this knowledge to trouble‑shooter, maintain, and install electrical equipment. They apply trade skills and experience to a wide range of maintenance and installation situations supporting our industry leading equipment (eg. Artificial Intelligence).

As an Electrician at AKD you could do a range of tasks including:

• Installing, repairing, and maintaining the electrical parts of industrial equipment (generators, transformers, switchboards & panels, interior wiring)
• Interpreting technical documents
• Preventative maintenance
• Fault finding and root cause analysis
• Interpreting PLC logic programs
• Providing technical support

Our apprentices work in hands-on environment and gain the skills to work across many different parts of our business in a supportive learning and development environment whilst having the opportunity to work on state-of-the-art equipment. We have a dedicated Training Manager to guide and support your overall training experience while undertaking your apprenticeship.

This is a full‑time fixed‑term position with a promising future. With a commitment of 4 years required to complete your trade, gain on the job training, and attend trade school, individuals must be highly motivated, flexible and keen to learn.
