Job summary

Ascham School in Sydney seeks an exceptional Teacher Librarian for our Junior School (Years 3–6). This permanent full-time role commences in Term 1, 2027, and invites you to ignite a lifelong love of reading while teaching advanced information literacy and collaborating across campuses to ensure curriculum continuity.

You will lead literacy events, curate print and digital collections, partner with teachers, and support student reading development.

Qualifications

• Qualified Primary Education degree with postgraduate credentials in Teacher Librarianship.
• Active NSW teaching registration and accreditation with NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
• Experience in a school library and with primary school students.
• Current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance, and First Aid/CPR certification.
• Membership of or willingness to engage with professional library/education associations.
• Ability to contribute to broader school life through camps, excursions, events.
• Strong alignment with Ascham's philosophy of independent, collaborative students.
• Energetic, empathetic, collaborative team-teaching approach.
• Exceptional communication with students, staff and parents.

Responsibilities

• Inspire a vibrant reading culture and promote reading for pleasure, wellbeing and learning.
• Lead Book Week and other literary events.
• Design and teach Years 3–6 Information Literacy program.
• Collaborate with teachers to integrate literature, information literacy and inquiry learning.
• Support Year 3–4 reading development and personalised reader guidance.
• Curate print and digital library collections reflecting curriculum needs and student interests.
• Build partnerships with library colleagues across P-12 for a connected library experience.
• Lead day-to-day Fiona Library operations including staff supervision and community engagement.
