HumanAbility is a Jobs and Skills Council for the health, human services, aged care and disability, sport & recreation and early childhood industries.
HumanAbility’s objective is to advance education by supporting skills and workforce development for the above specified industries. It is a values-based organisation, that is not-for-profit, industry-owned and led, that is contracted by the federal government.
We have an opportunity for a Communications Coordinator to join us on a full-time basis in an ongoing capacity subject to funding (currently funded until mid-2028). The role may be located anywhere in Australia and will involve travel with overnight stays for organisation meetings, stakeholder meetings, workshops, and industry events.
About the position
The Junior Graphic Designer supports HumanAbility’s Communications team to produce clear, engaging, accessible and on-brand communications across print and digital channels.
Working under the design direction of the Senior Graphic Designer – Brand and Communications, the role has a strong focus on long-form publications and production design, including reports, consultation documents, presentations, templates, infographics and event collateral.
The role would suit an emerging designer who:
Key Accountabilities
Observe and follow work health, safety and wellbeing policies and guidelines
Format and lay out long-form publications, reports, consultation summaries, using approved Microsoft Word templates, applying paragraph, character and table styles consistently to ensure documents are structured and formatted correctly.
Design and format publications and reports in Adobe InDesign using established templates, applying paragraph, character, object and table styles consistently, and preparing documents to meet accessibility requirements.
Create and refine tables, charts, diagrams and straightforward infographics from supplied or approved content, following established visual conventions.
Translate complex information, imagery and project material into clear, accessible and engaging visual infographics.
Carry out careful artwork checks, version control, proof corrections and final file preparation for print and digital distribution.
Qualifications and Experience
A tertiary qualification in graphic design, visual communication or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated capability.
A portfolio demonstrating strong design thinking and the ability to produce polished work, with particular strength in layout and typography across print and digital applications.
Approximately 2-4 years of relevant professional experience in an in-house, agency, studio or freelance environment. Applications will be assessed primarily on portfolio quality, demonstrated design thinking and the ability to produce polished work.
Sound skills in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for publication and presentation production.
Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise competing requirements and communicate capacity or delivery risks early.
Awareness of accessible and inclusive design principles, with a willingness to develop deeper expertise.
