Job summary

NSW Health is seeking an experienced JMO Coordinator for Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital to manage daily staffing and rostering across SSEH and POWH units. The role includes payroll, recruitment, and ensuring rosters comply with awards while maintaining cost-effective staffing.

The successful candidate will work with the POWH Operations Manager and JMO unit, travel between sites as required, and support staff through accurate advice, streamlined processes, and strong industrial knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or related field.
  • Experience with rostering and administration in health settings.
  • Understanding of employment conditions, awards and remuneration.
  • Ability to interpret awards, policies and employment laws.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working with medical staff is preferred.
  • Proficiency with HR software and MS Office suite.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage day-to-day staffing and operations of the JMO Unit.
  • Oversee rostering, payroll and recruitment for JMOs across SSEH and POWH.
  • Travel between Prince of Wales Hospital and Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital units as needed.
  • Ensure cost-effective, fair, compliant rostering per award requirements.
  • Provide timely advice on industrial matters to staff and management.
  • Lead local JMO recruitment in conjunction with unit heads and director.

The Role

Coordinate and manage the day to day staffing and operations of the Junior Medical Officer Unit to facilitate delivery of quality, cost effective services and the achievement of business and service objectives.

In consultation with the POWH Operations Manager and POWH JMO unit, the JMO Co-ordinator will oversee all Junior Medical Staff rostering, payroll and recruitment requirements within the Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital (SSEH) and will be required to travel between Prince of Wales Hospital JMO Unit and Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital JMO Unit from time to time.

The position will be responsible for cost effective, fair and equitable rostering for all Medical Workforce and ensure best rostering practices are followed with regard to award requirements and safe hours.

The JMO Co-Ordinator will be responsible for local payroll processes and have knowledge of relevant industrial awards, legislative requirements, and policies and procedures at District and State level is required as well as timely and accurate provision of advice on such matters to staff.

This position will be responsible for local JMO recruitment process in conjunction with the POWH JMO unit, Heads of Department and the Director of Clinical Services ensuring compliance with Ministry of Health and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District Workforce Services policies and protocols on recruitment and selection of JMOs.

A major function and responsibility of this role is to manage the annual JMO recruitment process of Junior Medical Officers within the Northern Network for SSEH and its business units and secondment sites.

The position is required to work effectively with the Prince of Wales Hospital JMO Unit, as well as other sites, to maintain and improve JMO and medical workforce administration functions.

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or relevant equivalent work experience or a combination of study and work experience, preferably experience working with Medical Officers.
  • Demonstrated experience in roster and administration management practices, preferably in a health related and/or JMO field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of employment conditions, with the ability to apply these to rostering and remuneration processes and practices, preferably experience in a health related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding in recruitment and human resource management with an ability to interpret awards, policies, agreements and employment legislation.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a high volume environment, with competing priorities, requiring high level analytical skills and high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated communication, conflict resolution, negotiation and problem solving skills with a demonstrated ability to establish sound working relationships with senior staff (including Medical and Managerial) with an ability to quickly and accurately identify and elevate significant issues as they arise.
  • Advanced experience in the use of software packages and demonstrated experience in using various computer software packages (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, HealthRoster, Stafflink and other Ministry of Health applications preferable).
