You will work directly with business stakeholders and Australian country leadership to design, build and deploy an underwriter enablement system that centralises insurance workflows, with end-to-end ownership and a strong emphasis on quality.

Responsibilities

Job description

Our client is building a high-profile global insurance platform for a leading insurer, and we are

looking for two Senior Java Developers to join a lean, high-performing delivery team based

in Sydney or Melbourne. This is an AI-native project — the teams use Claude and other AI

tools to ship solutions in months that would otherwise take years. You will work directly with

business stakeholders and Australian country leadership to deliver an underwriter

enablement system that centralises and automates insurance workflows.

The Project

The Underwriter Enablement System consolidates data from downstream systems into a

global data store, automates data ingestion using AI, and provides underwriters with a

centralised interface for policy management and administration. The goal is to replace

archaic, siloed workflows with a modern, AI-enabled platform that simplifies decision-making

across the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop features across the full stack using Java (Spring Boot), Kafka and Angular.
• Take end-to-end ownership of delivery, including architecture decisions, without heavy reliance on others.
• Use AI-assisted coding tools (primarily Claude) as a core part of your daily workflow to maximise throughput.
• Write and maintain comprehensive test suites — unit, integration, load, and contract tests — using Test Driven Development (TDD) via AI-native workflows.
• Collaborate directly with Australian business leads and country heads in Sydney and Melbourne.
• Build internal utilities and reliability tooling in Python to support AI-assisted development workflows.
• Manage CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes deployments on Azure.
• Ensure all code meets high quality standards, regardless of how much is AI-generated.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong proficiency in Java with Spring or Spring Boot for enterprise application development.
• Experience with Kafka for event-driven messaging architectures.
• Front-end development experience with Angular (React considered as an alternative).
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms — Azure preferred, though platform-agnostic candidates are welcome.
• Demonstrable experience using AI coding tools (Claude, Copilot, or similar) in a professional setting.
• Architectural awareness: ability to make design decisions and deliver independently.
• Experience writing and owning full testing suites, including unit, integration, and load tests.
• Australian-based (Sydney or Melbourne) with full work rights.

Nice to Have

• Python scripting experience for utilities and tooling.
• Experience with Azure Data Lake and Apache Spark.
• Background in insurance or financial services.
• Prior work in a TDD or AI-native delivery environment.
