You'll join the Horizon Digital team and be embedded on site with one of our clients, a utilities company south of the river. These are practical, hands-on people who keep essential services running across the state, not a faceless corporate tower. The work is refreshingly grounded. Real improvements to the systems their teams use every single day, where what you ship actually gets used. The role kicks off with solid software development and is set to grow into AI implementation as the work matures.

We're looking for a Software Engineer to build and ship real features, write and test their own code, and help bring AI into the mix, working closely with our AI consultant guiding the direction.

What you'll be doing

• Building and shipping features end to end across a Django and React stack on AWS
• Writing and testing your own code so changes stay safe and reliable
• Working directly with client teams on site to understand and improve their processes
• Turning practical, real-world requirements into working software
• Using AI tools like Claude Code to work faster and smarter
• Growing into implementing AI capabilities as the engagement evolves
• Talking plainly with non-technical teams and leaving the jargon at the door

What you'll bring

• Mid level experience in software development, comfortable owning features end to end
• Solid Python and Django, with React on the front end
• Hands-on experience with AWS
• A quality-first mindset. You write and test your own code, you don't just throw it over the fence
• Strong communication. You can hold your own with practical, non-technical teams
• Happy working on site and embedded with a client
• Familiarity with AI coding tools like Claude Code
• Exposure to implementing AI or automation in real workflows
• Background in utilities, energy, or other operational environments
• A self-starter who thrives with autonomy on site
