Job summary

Future Generation Joint Venture in NSW seeks an Industrial Relations Advisor to resolve disputes and ensure IR compliance across FGJV employees and subcontractors.

You will advise on workplace relations policies, interpret legislation and agreements, and collaborate with stakeholders to mitigate risks and maintain project integrity in remote Snowy 2.0 environs.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in HR, employment relations or law preferred.
  • Experience in construction HR/IR is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Fair Work Act, awards and enterprise agreements.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide IR advice interpreting legislation, awards and enterprise agreements for blue and white collar workforce.
  • Liaise with Payroll on payroll queries and application of industrial instruments.
  • Manage union right of entry to site and guidance of union officials.
  • In-field first response to industrial incidents and risk mitigation planning.
  • Coordinate subcontractor pre-qualification audits and mobilisation of personnel.
  • Develop and implement IR policies and provide training to management and staff.
  • Prepare employment contracts and internal employee communications.
  • Ensure compliance with project industrial systems and remuneration terms.

Job description

The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world.

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.

Purpose of the Role

To Assist in resolving disputes by advising on workplace relations policies and problems. The Industrial Relations (IR) Advisor is responsible for working collaboratively across the stakeholder groups, to ensure IR compliance for FGJV employees and subcontractors.

Qualifications
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Human Resource Management, Employment Relations, Organisational Psychology, Law or relevant field – preferred
  • White Card
Experience
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in a similar role – preferably in the construction industry
  • Knowledge, and experience in the application of HR/IR systems and processes
  • Project Management experience – ability to plan, implement & manage longer term initiatives
  • Knowledge of the Fair Work Act
  • Ability to interpret Common Law Contracts, Awards and Enterprise Agreements, in particular the SC Hydro Pty Ltd AWU Tunnel and Associated Works Greenfield Agreement 2021 – 2025 and the SC Hydro Pty Ltd AWU and CFMMEU Surface Works Greenfield Agreement 2021 – 2025

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • Provide IR advice including interpretation of relevant legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements in relation to blue collar and white-collar workforce.
  • Liaison with Payroll team regarding application of industrial instruments and payroll queries.
  • Managing union right of entry to site and guidance of union officials.
  • In-field first response to any industrial incident and/or action (in accordance with industrial risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans).
  • Coordinating subcontractor pre-qualification audits and mobilisation of personnel.
  • Review ABCC compliance for the Project and its subcontractors.
  • Delivering training to management and other personnel on IR and HR topics. Develop and implement policies and procedures across the project workforce.
  • Generating employment contracts and internal employee correspondence as required.
  • Ensuring compliance, provision of instruction, advice and support to personnel and management in the implementation of Project industrial systems including counselling/discipline, issue resolution, probation, return to work and performance evaluations.
  • Knowledge of Fair Work Act, industrial systems & structures and industrial agreement terms, conditions, & remuneration.
  • Identify emerging issues in a workplace and assist in developing strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Ability to liaise with all levels of a typical workforce and comfortable to interact with a range of issues.
  • Develop relationships with Project leaders and relevant external stakeholders.
